On April 27, 2022, Buzzfeed News published an article on child abuse registries and how they disproportionately affect people of color. While researching for his article, Buzzfeed reporter Scott Pham consulted with numerous attorneys, including Woodnick Law’s own Markus Risinger.
Of note, Scott Pham did a thorough analysis after collecting data about central registries, which includes the rate at which appeals to placement on the registry were successful and a breakdown of those placed on the registry by age, race, sex, and purported maltreatment.
Research like this provides invaluable insight to the conversation about the benefits and burdens of the Central Registry and it is encouraging that news outlets like Buzzfeed are interested in calling attention to those most affected.
